Southwest Joins The Party – Bag Fees To Increase By $10

Not wanting to feel left out after introducing bag fees last year, Southwest has announced that it too will be increasing bag fees by $10 due to rising fuel costs.JetBlue was the first to increase fees, followed by United and then Delta.

The increased fee of $45 per bag (up from $35) will be on tickets booked after Thursday, April 9.Congratulations to Southwest on their first fee hike on bag fees.As mentioned airlines are blaming rising fuel costs for these increases but by increasing bag fees instead of adding a fuel surcharge has the added benefit that there is no expectation to lower those fees when fuel pricing decreases and elites/credit card holders are not affected.
